The Accidental Manager

For: Working professionals in delivery and management roles

The Accidental Manager is a five-module programme for the most under-taught transition in Indian corporations: the high-performing individual contributor who is promoted and then left to lead people who were their peers only yesterday. It begins with the identity shift from doer to leader, covering the first 90 days and the need to redefine “productive” as the team’s output rather than one’s own. It then moves to delegation, showing why tasks boomerang back and how to hand over ownership without micromanaging. From there it builds the conversation skills managers tend to avoid, including feedback that lands, the SBI (Situation-Behavior-Impact) method, underperformer conversations and meaningful 1:1s. The fourth module covers running the room through meetings, reviews, conflict resolution, managing up and team rituals. The final module deals with the unwritten politics of the new seat: managing someone older than you, handling a peer who wanted your job, saying no to your boss, protecting your team’s bandwidth and knowing when to escalate.

Modules are workshops with drills and observed practice, delivered in small cohorts. For teams, modules are selected against a diagnostic.
